Tyres are one of the most important components of any vehicle. The safety of a driver and passengers are 80% dependent on tyres. There are different types of tyres used in passenger vehicles for various reasons, most of the tyres are dependent on seasons, and road, on which vehicle has to drive.
What are the different types of tyres used in passenger vehicles?
As the passenger vehicles mostly do not have to drive in speed or in off-road conditions, so passenger vehicles require long-lasting tyres, which can provide the smooth drive and long-term life of the treads. Types quality also varies with tyres brands. The various types of tyres used for passenger vehicles are explained below.
All season tyres
As the name suggests, these tyres can provide good performance in all seasons. But as we know, seasons are different in every country and they also vary, so for extreme weather conditions, specialised tyres are required. The treads of tyres are in line with each other and also with circumferential grooves provide good handling in all weather conditions.
Touring tyres
These are also known as grand touring tyres, these types of tyres also provide reliability in all seasons. The difference in touring tires is its asymmetrical treads provide good handling in different weather conditions. These tires are made to provide performance and a little less of a comfort. These tires are mostly used when someone modifies the car for performance.
Performance tyres
These tyres are used to provide performance rather than comfort. It is composed of soft rubber with hard sidewall. Although these tyres have less lifetime due to soft rubber but can provide good performance in hard turns due to larger circumferential grooves. These tyres are mostly used when someone wants to drive with high speed like in racing.
Summer and winter tyres
As the name suggests, summer tyres are perfect for rainy and dry conditions and provide good gripping and performance in dry and rainy weathers. Summer tyres are not suitable for winter conditions, as they have less circumferential grooves. and neither in extreme rainy weather. Similar to summer, winter tyres are also not ideal for summer conditions.
Track and competition tyres
These tyres are used in races and competitions by professional drivers, and rarely used in daily routine driving. Track and competition tyres are designed in a way to keep constant contact with the surface of the road in dry weather condition. The difference between summer tyres and track and competition tyres in design is that track, and competition tyres have sidewalls with a strong reinforcement, such as aramid or Kevlar, both are durable synthetic fibres use as a heat resistant in race cars tyres. It also has a high tech body structure explicitly designed for track races.
The types of tires and its technical specs are as follows.
