There are various types of steel used to make electrical products. But what is electrical steel? Is it the steel which is used to make wire and cables or is it something else. It becomes more confusing when I come across that it is used in making transformers.
Electrical steel is different than cable and wires.
Electrical steel is speciality steel tailored to produce certain magnetic properties, such as small hysteresis area (which is a small energy dissipation per cycle, or low core loss) and high permeability. It is basically an iron-silicon alloy specially designed to produce positive magnetic properties like small hysteresis cycle, low core losses and high magnetic permeability. The silicon content ranges between 0.5% and 5%.
