The global market of MDM was around $ 4 billion in 2019 and is expected to rise by 5.5% in 2020, reaching $ 4.22 billion.
The market is expected to see moderate demand growth due to: ever-growing trend of BYOD; increase in the use of mobile phones; reduction of IT-based costs by applying BYOD culture; and facilitation of effective solutions which include management of security; management of devices; management of corporate services.
The main players in MDM market include Apple, IBM, Cisco, Microsoft, Telstra, Citrix, SAP, Fiberlink Communication, MobileIron, and Blackberry.
Most businesses allow their employees to work from home now and use personal devices for business communication. This is making businesses vulnerable to cyber attacks. To mitigate the risks companies to deploy software that can securely manage the employees’ devices remotely.
MDM can perform various functions in organizations such as tracking and monitoring of equipment that are used by organizations, define scalable security policies for personal devices, remotely troubleshooting of equipment, and ensure that employees are following the IT security policy.
Mobile devices are increasing rapidly and so the different mobile operating systems and service providers. Recently most of the security breaches in organizations are due to the use of mobile devices in workplaces, and connectivity of mobile devices with corporate networks.
To tackle the situation, IT administrators have to secure the network mechanisms, mostly through MDM platforms and tools, that can efficiently manage the mobile devices inside the corporate network.
The other main factor which drives IT administrators to perform efficient MDM is the increasing rate of BYOD (bring your own device) culture in organizations. BYOD is still considering as the high threat to organization security, but currently, every employee expects the BYOD culture in an organization when joining it. It also forced the IT administrators to provide mechanisms through which employee can use his personal device without affecting the security of the organization.
